Data warehouse 'out of the box'

A data warehouse is a database in which data taken from various operational systems is retrieved and ordered with the aim of easily compiling reports and analyses. Actually, this is the only way to provide a solution for the ever-growing need for insight into complex and growing data collections. Yet, building a data warehouse is complicated and therefore expensive. To overcome this problem, Qics has developed its own data warehouse which links directly to Exact (Globe and Synergy) and QicsTime. Qics has a vast knowledge of these databases and, being experienced in the field of data warehousing and Business Intelligence, has been able to create an out-of-the-box data warehouse. Using QicsAnalytics, access to a real data warehouse is feasible within one week. The possibilities offered for quickly creating reliable reports and analyses are amazing.

The information is written in a simple and accessible language

Creating reports in Exact often requires considerable knowledge concerning Exact's reporting tool and its databases. The creation of reports about various Exact accounting systems, that may or may not be combined with information from Exact Synergy, has become even more complex. Using QicsAnalytics will solve this puzzle. The complexity of the underlying databases remains fully hidden to the user who wishes to produce a report or carry out an analysis. All fields have been given a name and are arranged in  a manner that makes sense to the business. Even without any knowledge of databases, familiarity with the way in which QicsAnalytics presents the data is quickly achieved. Knowing the information must be contained somewhere in Exact, using QicsAnalytics it will be possible to retrieve the information easily!

Guaranteed data quality

Proper reporting depends heavily on the reliability of the data entered. A company typically has defined internal rules for entering data and QicsAnalytics ensures adherence to these rules. QicsAnalytics continually monitors whether the data entered satisfies the rules and immediately reports any infringement. This way, data entry errors are quickly discovered and corrected, allowing a significant increase in data quality. A customer will see reliable reports and analyses can be delivered more quickly. Moreover, no one will be able to say that a report is incorrect!

 

The definitions are recorded in one central location

Every company has its own terms, formulas and calculation rules. Often these definitions are recorded in reports according to the formulas developed. However, the problem is that at times there may be more than one interpretation of a definition, depending on which report has been requested. Using QicsAnalytics, such definitions can be stored in one central location, making sure that when a report or analysis is being compiled, everyone will use the same definition. Consequently, everyone will see the same figures, independent of the knowledge of the individual who compiled the report or analysis.

 

Real-time information is available

Normally, data warehouses are loaded during the night. This means that the information available for reporting and analyses at any given moment is at least one day old. This is not necessarily a problem but it does make things difficult if a user wants to verify the results of a correction in one of the financial accounting systems attached to the warehouse. QicsAnalytics transfers the data to the data warehouse in 'near real time' fashion, assuring that the information contained in the reports and analyses will never be older than five minutes.

No performance problems using large databases

The techniques used ensure that quick analyses and reports can also be produced from large amounts of data. Having to wait for ages for a report to be generated or to zoom in on detailed information is now a thing of the past.

Information available forever

QicsAnalytics saves the data in a separate database. This way, this information will always be available for reporting purposes. If for instance a client switches to new accounting software, the information from the new system is added to the QicsAnalytics database. Therefore reporting about data taken from various systems is easy. Of course, it is also possible to load data from previous databases, allowing you to compare actual data with old data. Using QicsAnalytics is a question of accumulating data and not having to lose it.

Links to every reporting tool

QicsAnalytics creates a data warehouse and what is known as Microsoft OLAP data cubes. It is possible to connect any reporting tool to these facilities. Excel, Qlikview, Roambi (to display data on the iPhone), Crystal Reports and Microsoft Reporting Services can all be connected to the data warehouse and/or OLAP data cubes. This is the power of QicsAnalytics. Whatever the preferred tool to create reports and analyses, the key thing is to connect these tools to a database that contains verified, retrieved, arranged and optimized information. This is precisely what QicsAnalytics has to offer.

It is equipped to add data from other databases

QicsAnalytics can be directly linked to Exact Globe, Exact Synergy (Enterprise) and QicsTime. Has any information been saved in other databases as well? In that case, QicsAnalytics can transfer this information to the data warehouse and link it to the information taken from Exact Globe, Exact Synergy (Enterprise) and QicsTime.
